I tried tweeting four times a day for a week and this is what happened

Hi world. It’s me, Jess again.

This week, as you can see from the title, I wanted to do a little social media experiment. Now, obviously tweeting more often will equal more impressions and more engagement, but I wanted to know how much more my simple experiment would add.

Let’s just start from the beginning, shall we?

So, my sister and I have a youtube channel. We focus on comedy videos and short skits when we have the time around other commitments. But we try to maintain a weekly, Tuesday posting. Now, I have found that twitter is honestly one of the best places on the internet to share your content. Yes it’s scary and you can’t edit tweets and there are people who tweet dumb stuff about their defecation habits. But it is a good place to get some engagement with your content - whether we are talking, eBooks, your website or - you guessed it - your YouTube channel. In fact, most of our views and subscribers have come from promotion on Twitter.

Here’s the thing though - I’m forgetful and lazy. I often forget to follow tweets up during the week and usually tell myself ‘I’ll just do it later’. I don’t do it later though…

So I figured I would set four alarms on my phone. One for the morning, one for afternoon, one for late afternoon and one of the evening. So I was tweeting at 10AM, 12PM, 3PM and 6PM. And yes, the alarms were necessary.

So from the period of the 3rd of April and 10th of April, Twitter tells me our tweets garnered us only 1.8k impressions. Which is nothing, really. It averages it to 224 a day, which isn’t good when you consider that whilst it may have displayed our tweet on somebody’s timeline, they didn’t necessarily read it.

In case you didn’t know, impressions on Twitter just refers to the number of user who saw your tweet on their timeline. It doesn’t reference engagements, which is an entirely different metric.

So, after setting four alarms a day for a week, tweeting when I saw them or scheduling tweets whilst I would be at work, our impressions have increased eightfold. Eightfold? Is that a word?

Anyway, this week our tweets garnered us 8,000 impressions. Between the dates of 10th of April till today, the 17th of April, we have managed to nearly times last weeks impression count by 8. Now, I’m not entirely sure if this is important or not. I mean, we’ve been gaining about 60 new followers this week alone. Which is higher than normal, for sure.

Anyway, there was a boring post only relevant to me. Plus, if you have read this far without clicking off in anger, I am not by any means proclaiming to be an expert at this stuff. I could be looking at the wrong metric. I know engagements have increased, but that perhaps just comes with the increased number of tweets and impressions. Who knows, none of it is causal. It’s just a bit of fun.
As always, make somebody happy today.

More later,
