January Favourites!

In the spirit of trying a new look on this blog and being more productive (with regards to content for it) I thought I would give a favourites blog post a go. I’ve never done one so forgive me if I get it wrong. Either way, January - for most - is a time of looking at your life from a new perspective and trying to maintain new year resolutions. And with that, you sometimes need some help - either with new items or new ways of looking at our big, fabulous world.

As I write, I've just today completed day 10 of this app. If you’ve never heard of it it’s an app for meditation. A British accented gentleman guides you serenely through breathing exercises and provides you with insight into your mind - how it works, what its rhythm is, how to relate to the many things happening in the mind at all times. You can choose your time for meditation - either 3, 5 or 10 minutes. I’ve never been very good at mindfulness - with regards to living in the moment. Concentrating on only the stimuli around you. Not bothered by thoughts from other places. I’m always worried about something. But that short period of time spent breathing deeply, concentrating on how the weight of my body anchors me -  it's already teaching me a lot. I'm SO chill.

Turkey Burger
I don’t eat beef because doing so triggers an aggressive and scary bowel status that would last forever. I mean, at least that’s what I think. I haven’t eaten beef in four years due to my irritable bowel (so triggered by everything). However, recently I tried out making turkey burgers. And no joke, the best things in the WORLD. I took some minced turkey breast and added paprika, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, pepper, basil and oregano. Totally amazing - full of flavour and juicy. They changed my beef-free life.
I’m not sure if I can say I’m competent at making sushi yet. I definitely wouldn’t serve it to anybody outside of my immediate family (like they’d even eat it anyway…) but I understand the basics now and just need to practice.
Comic books
Not going to lie. Comic books have never been my thing. The artwork is brilliant yes, but to read alongside can be jarring and hard to follow. Until I went with Ben to find him more comics and found some Adventure time ones. I love adventure time. It’s a super weird show and I’m really upset about it being cancelled but, as Ben put it, at least you will be able to keep reading new comics.

But it’s weird. Even though I've never been able to get into comics or graphic novels before these, there’s something nice about sitting down, getting comfy and reading a comic you like. You can control the pace, take in the pictures and admire the artwork. Plus, if you watch the show you can pretty much image the characters saying it.

Anyway, that’s the end of this post. I hope I did the whole favourites thing justice. I know its usually reserved for beauty bloggers and such, but I figured it would give it a go. Fight me.

More later,
